Religion in the Past and Now in the USA
Religion in the USA is different than any country in the world. Every city in the USA has different kinds of religion such as Catholic, Christian, and Lutheran.  According to the interview  that I did with Foxdale a resident, who is 90 years old, that person who works in the church, she was explaining the activities and events she used to do in the church while she was working there. Similarly in 1940, there is an organization that helped students become more active in the religious community and develop skills in the future (la Vie,1941,p158). I will discuss in my paper the Religion from 1940 to 1950, until recent day such as the activities, and the lifestyle of religious people.

First, the difference between the religion in 1950 and the recent day religions is the kind of religious activities . According to the Daily Collegian  it says that one of the most important religious activities is playing religious movies. The way  the church did activities was to show movies on Sunday related to religion and people would discuss with each other about the movie. Showing movies represented the kind of religious activities people used to have in that period of time .(3 March, 1950). However, the recent day activities and according to the interview I had at Foxdale, people who work in church  on Sundays perform a kind of prayer, and then they meet and discuss about the different kinds of religion and the rules of the religion. As a result of my reading, the religion activities are different from past to recent day.

Second, the lifestyle of  religious people is different in the recent day society. According to the Daily Collegian “the main purpose of religious life  week is to help everyone realize the importance of religion in the age of science.” To explain this quote, the lifestyle of religious people in the past focused on assisting people to  remember the rules of religion and how the religion  is necessary. (18 Frbruary,1490). Unlike the past, in the recent society the religious people help  by  answering questions that people have about the religion instead of reminding them about the religious rules.  However, the time of  prayer is the same in the past, people used to pray on Sundays and they still do.

In conclusion, religion has witnessed a lot of changes in the past 50-60 years such as the activities and life style, but it is not a big difference. The most beautiful thing I noticed about religious people in the past and now is that they are so dedicated to their religion.

Reaction 8

In happiness book in page 36 in the last paragraph the author illustrates that people who are happy have a positive feeling of pleasure, and they are enjoying their life. However, unhappy people have a negative reaction that make them sad in their life, and he or she is not living as a happy person, because negative reaction make people angry. Sometimes having optimistic experience is important for people to become happy but it is not enough.

Trip to Foxdale

How did this trip compare to the expectations you had before you went?

Before I went to Foxdale, I thought I will not enjoy there. After I went to the Foxdale and met these people, I enjoyed . I like the person that I met, she told me some stories about herself. She told me that even she is 90 years old, she wants to complete her master’s degree at Penn State, she motivated me to complete my master’s degree at Penn State. I like her motivation because in my country when people reach the age of  60 or 90 years old, they think only about their  job and retirement.

What did you enjoy?  What was challenging?

I enjoyed this experience because I have never experienced  like this in my country. The thing that challenged me is that  I misunderstood some of the vocabulary because the topic that we were discussing was about religion and I did not know what  kinds of religion she was talking about. The thing that surprised me was a person I met who knew everything about my religion Islam, she was talking to me about it.

what advice do you have for future IECP students taking a trip similar to this one?

I like this trip I hope IECP plans the same trip every semester because it is helpful to the students to practice their English..

I appreciate my teacher Ruth who  helped us to go there and meet these people. I will not forget that enjoyable experience.
